SLSON ACTIVITIES - ACADEMIC EVENTS
Regional meeting in Kandalama - 24th November 2023
As a continuum to the SLSON initiative to carry out regional CME activities, the second successful programme for the year 2023 was held in collaboration with the Kurunegala Medical Association at Heritance Kandalama Hotel, Dambulla and was met with great success. The event included a 1-day academic programme with parallel nursing and doctors ’ streams.
Enthusiasm shown from both medical and nursing communities were immense, evidenced by the high number of participants exceeding 100. It also provided a new platform for young nephrologists to present and share new knowledge among the local nephrology fraternity.
The academic programme was followed by the Annual General Meeting. New council for the term 2023/2024 was appointed. This was followed by the ‘Members ’ night’ creating a friendly atmosphere for fellowship.
The society is grateful to Dr Nalaka Herath and Dr Premil Rajakrishna for their exemplary organisation and all the speakers who took their valuable time to make the event a success. We look forward eagerly to the next regional meeting in Ampara scheduled for June 2024.

Vascular access workshop for
Nephrology
trainees at NINDT
Maligawatta
Surgical and Nephrology teams at NINDT Maligawatta organized a workshop on vascular access for Nephrology trainees and medical officers of renal units in western province with the participation of thirty doctors.
Hands on skills workshop included training on peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter insertion, temporary, and permanent dialysis catheter insertion. Upon successful completion of the workshop trainees were awarded participation certificates.

Update in glomerulonephritis
Organized by the Department of Clinical Medicine, Colombo and the Royal Free Hospital, UK was held on 8th December 2023 at CLINMARC, NHSL with the participation of more than seventy-five doctors.
Symposium on Kidney - Pancreas transplantation
A well-attended workshop on kidney and pancreas transplantation was held on 23rd of January 2024 at Waters Edge hotel with participation of sixty doctors. This program was organized by Sri Jayawardanapura transplant unit in collaboration with SLSON & Society of Endocrinology.
